Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia and former President of the Canadian Economics Association (2022–2023). Holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University (1990). Specializes in labor economics, income inequality, immigration, and public policy. Served as Director of the Vancouver School of Economics (2017–2019) and chaired the BC Basic Income Panel (2018–2020). Published extensively in top journals including Econometrica, American Economic Review, and Journal of Political Economy. Co-edited multiple volumes on inequality, twice awarded the Doug Purvis Memorial Prize. Fellow of the Society of Labor Economists (2024).
