Professor Emeritus of Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen. PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh (1995). Joined Aberdeen in 2002, promoted through Lecturer → Senior Lecturer → Reader → Professor (2002–2021). Research specialises in ontologies, knowledge representation, and artificial intelligence. Previously Research Fellow at Edinburgh (2000–2002). MSc in Logics and Distributed Systems from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Fluent in Portuguese, English, Catalan, Spanish; working knowledge of German and French. Retired since August 2021, now Professor Emeritus.
